Jake walked along the road, his well-worn pair of black Converse scuffing along the dust. His hands were in his pockets, and his shoulders were slightly hunched. It was a warm day, and he wore jeans and a plain blue t-shirt along with his signature shoes. His hair was slightly dishevelled, the 'bed-head' look that suggested that he had, indeed, just rolled out of bed and then headed out. Actually, he'd done a bit more than that, but he was bored.
He'd always had sort of a sweet tooth. With his laptop about to bite the dust, and what with being about to adopt a dog, Jake didn't have a whole lot to do. Sweetz was his favourite stop in town, if not the healthies. With a grin, he walked up to the steps, unhunching his shoulders, hand falling out of his pockets. He ascended the three steps easily and opened the door. A cool rush of air smacked him pleasantly in the face and his smile widened.
The large buckets of ice cream were practically calling his name. Jake sort of ambled up to them, and then ordered a double scoop cone of mint-chocolate chip. When it was handed to him, he paid and headed over in the direction of the booths, and sat down in a two-person one, enjoying the cool treat. Now if only he had some company.

Melody ( Vayne ) !Sweet. Sugar. Candy man. ..Outfit.. The sun was glaring down on the jogging blonde as she jogged alongside the roads of town on the sidewalks. Thank goodness she had put sun screen on before heading out otherwise she would be burnt to a crisp. Mel adjusted her ponytail as she jogged and let out a breath. It was getting really hot outside. She wiped the sweat off her brow and looked around as she began jogging on main street. That was when the ice cream shop caught her eye. Almost on cue her stomach growled. Mel smiled softly and lightly patted her abdomen. Ice cream it is then. She said. Mel turned and jogged up the stairs and stopped to walk as she entered the small shop.
The nice welcoming blast of cool air made her smile. It felt so much better than being outside right now. She adjusted her pony tail and walked up to the counter. The woman behind it smiled and asked her what she would like. Just two scoops of chocolate on a waffle cone please. She asked. The woman nodded and scooped her ice cream. Mel thanked her and paid before turning away from the counter and looking around. There were two other people in there beside her. One she didn't know and the other she did. Mel smiled when she saw the familiar man. It was Jake Sinclair. She would sit with him, if he agreed of course.
Mel walked up to the two person table and smiled down at Jake. She took a couple of licks of her ice cream before speaking. You know Jake, I'm pretty sure that a two person table is meant for two people, not one. Do you mind if I join you? She asked and smiled.

Jake was just nibbling around the edges of his cone and wondering why the heck no one was around when, surprise! The door to the shop opened and the bell tinkled brightly, admitting one rather sweaty-looking Melody Vayne. He was happy to see her, and smiled slightly into his ice cream as she walked purposefully up to the counter and ordered.
He saw her scan the shop for a place to sit and waved. She approached, face lighting up when she saw him. Jake couldn't help but feel a little flattered. "Of course not. You're right: two person tables are meant for two," he said with a grin. "But I'm just such a loner, right?" His tone was facetious and teasing; it was obvious he totally didn't mean his words. After all, Jake was a pretty sociable guy, and really wasn't the loner type for the most part. It was time to start a conversation. After all, he hadn't seen her in a while.
"So, what have you been up to? I haven't seen you in a while," Jake said, "although I've been around. I've been riding Stormy a bit." He took a bite of his green ice cream and bit down on one of the chips. The ice cream here was really good. Maybe it was just the heat, but it was refreshing, just what he needed after riding Stormy for two hours in the mid-day heat.

Melody ( Vayne ) !Sweet. Sugar. Candy man. ..Outfit.. Melody chuckled when Jake agreed with her. She sat down across from him and listened as he talked about being such a loner. She could tell that he was kidding. One by the sound of his voice and two because she knew him well enough to know that he could never be a loner. She licked her ice cream a couple of times. Yes, Jake Sinclair is such a loner. She said sarcastically and smirked. The smirk soon turned into a smile before took a small bite of her ice cream.
Mel raised her eyebrows when he began speaking again. He wanted to know how she had been and he stated that it had been a while since their last meeting. Mel nodded before licking her ice cream once more. I haven't seen you either. Have you been hiding? She asked and chuckled before continuing. I've been pretty good. Jack has helped a lot with Hope Springs. I don't know why I fought so much with him. I guess I was just scared he would take me away from this place. Mel said, the last sentence sounding a bit sad.
But she let the sadness go and a huge smile appeared on her face quickly. Once the smile hid the sadness she was instantly reminded of the month where she had gone into a deep depression. Drinking, forgetting about the horses, not talking to friends. It had been awful. She mentally shook herself and smiled at Jake again. So, how have you been? She asked kindly.
